The mission of the Holdingford school counseling department is to assist our students in navigating their educational experience in the areas of academic, career and personal/social development. Our school counselors are licensed and professional advocates who help remove barriers, provide opportunities for students and assist them in preparing for a productive, healthy and rewarding life.

Academic Resources
College in the Schools (CIS)
Holdingford High School offers an extenive concurrent enrollment program with varying courses and credits offered through Fon Du Lac Tribal and Community College. These credits transfer to any of the colleges and univiersities in the Minnesota State University and Colleges System.
Our classes are all taught by Holdingford teachers and offer students the ability to take college level courses for free without needing to leave our building. Many of our courses offer a hybrid schedule allowing students flexibility and autonomy with their schedules.
We have a College in the Schools lounge specific to students who take our CIS courses to work in their free time if they’d like.
Students will request CIS courses through the course request process each year and will be accepted into courses based on G.P.A. and class rank until course caps have been reached. Students must have a 2.8 minimum G.P.A. to request a CIS course.

Students must meet all areas of ISD 738 graduation requirments in order to graduate high school and recieve a Holdingord High School dipolma. If at any point a student fails a course or gets off track, Holdingford High School offers a few different credit recovery options. If students choose not to utilize our credit recovery options, they are responsible for finding their own alternatives for making up missing credit(s). Holdingford Graduation Requirements
Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO)
What is it?
Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows 10th-, 11th- and 12th-grade students to earn both high school and college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college nonsectarian courses at eligible participating postsecondary institutions. Most PSEO courses are offered on the campus of the postsecondary institution; some courses are offered online. Each participating college or university sets its own admissions requirements for enrollment into the PSEO courses. Eleventh and 12th-grade students may take PSEO courses on a full- or part-time basis; 10th graders are eligible to enroll in PSEO on a more limited basis (see note below). Students must meet the PSEO residency and eligibility requirements and abide by participation limits specified in Minnesota Statutes, section 124D.09. If a school district determines a pupil is not on track to graduate, she/he may continue to participate in PSEO on a term by term basis.
By March 1 of each year, or three weeks prior to the date a student registers for courses for the following school year (whichever is earlier), schools must provide PSEO information to all students in grades 8-11 and their families. To assist the district in planning, a student must inform the district by May 30 of each year of their intent to enroll in postsecondary courses during the following school year.
There is no charge to PSEO students for tuition, books or fees for items that are required to participate in a course; however, students may incur fees for equipment that becomes their property when the course or program is completed, textbooks that are not returned to the postsecondary institution according to their policies, or for tuition costs if they do not notify the district by May 30 and the district does not waive this date requirement.
Funds are available to help pay transportation expenses for qualifying students to participate in PSEO courses on college campuses. For more information on these funds, access the PSEO Mileage Reimbursement Program Instructions. Enrolling in a PSEO course does not prohibit a student from participating in activities sponsored by the high school. School districts must allow a PSEO student reasonable access to the high school building, computers and/or other technology resources during regular school hours to participate in PSEO courses, whether on-line or on campus. Each year, districts must publish their grade-weighting policy on their website, including a list of courses for which students can earn weighted grades.
All courses taken through the PSEO program must meet graduation requirements. Districts must transcript credits earned in PSEO by a ratio prescribed in statute. Districts have the authority to decide which subject area and standards the PSEO course meets. If there is a dispute between the district and the student regarding the number of credits granted for a particular course, the student may appeal the board's decision to the commissioner. The commissioner's decision regarding the number of credits will be final.
Postsecondary institutions are required to allow PSEO students to enroll in online courses consistent with the institution’s policy regarding postsecondary student enrollment in online courses.
Tenth-grade students may initially enroll in one Career and Technical Education (CTE) PSEO course if they receive a reading proficiency score of “meets” or “exceeds” on the 8th grade MCA. If 10th graders taking a CTE PSEO course earn at least a grade C in that class, they may take additional postsecondary courses. If the student did not take the MCA in 8th-grade, another reading assessment accepted by the enrolling postsecondary institution can be substituted. For students with disabilities, there is an alternative option to demonstrate reading proficiency.

Scheduling & Registration Information
Junior High Scheduling
7th and 8th graders will be auto scheduled into their required core classes and will only have a music choice. Scheduling forms will be distributed in the Spring for students and parent/guardians to sign and return.
High School Scheduling
Students entering grades 9-12 will enter their course requests into Skyward each winter which allows the master teacher grid to be built around student needs and requests. Later in the Spring once the grid is built, students will utilize Arena Scheduling in Skyward to build their schedules and actually schedule themselves into next year’s classes. Students will recieve information and scheduling packets from their school counselors during Harvest classes with more information.

Transcript requests made during the academic school year will be processed regularly by our school counselors. If this requests is being made outside the academic school year, you must contact the high school principal in order to have a transcript processed.
Tutoring Options
If a student is struggling in a certain subject or class, please connect with that teacher who will be the best initial resource in discussing concerns and support options.
Holdingford Junior High School offers both after school study skills and summer school study skills to students in grades seven or eight who may benefit from addtional support. Please connect with your school counselor who can help make a referral if needed.
FLEX time is a support option that takes place during our scheduled Harvest time once per week for students in grades 7-12. FLEX time is designated to providing support or extensions to students who may benefit. Students can sign up for their own elective choice options or a teacher may assign them and require them to attend their FLEX if they are stuggling or missing work in their courses.

SchooLinks is a comprehensive college and career readiness (CCR) platform designed to support K-12 students in their journey beyond high school, whether they choose a 2-year or 4-year college, a military career or an entry into the workforce. It's an intuitive platform built with a student-first approach, offering personalized guidance and powerful tools to explore, plan, and prepare for a meaningful first step after graduation.
Counselors have set up and assigned self-paced monthly activities for students in grades 9-12 to work on. This shows up for students with due dates at the end of each month. SchooLinks Harvest is their time to work on this, however they can explore or complete more activities on their own time if they would like as well. 7th Grade will not use SchooLinks at this time. Counselors will present in each rotation of the 8th grade T.L.C class to roll this out so students know what this is when they get to 9th grade.

Holdingford High School offers two college and career assessments, the ACT and the ASVAB. All students are encouraged to take at least one of the two assessments. What is Self-Care?
Self-care is about meeting your basic needs so you can be physically and mentally healthy. When we feel stressed, overwhelmed or burnt out, we can start to neglect the basics of looking after ourselves. Our nutrition, movement and sleep health all affect on our brain and mental health, which is why it's so important to self-care, especially if you are starting to struggle with your mental health.
What are Coping Skills?
Adolescence can be exciting and challenging at the same time. It’s when teens undergo many changes in their bodies and try to establish their independence and identity. This life stage makes them prone to experiencing a variety of anxiety and fluctuating feelings. During difficult situations, coping skills for teens will minimize their stress. Coping healthily helps them feel better, function well at home and in school, and transition successfully into adulthood.
School Counselors are licensed mental health profsssionals who are trained to provide short term counseling to students. If a student is in need of long term support for ongoing concerns we can help families get connected to outside therapists who can help provide this support.
Co-Located Therapy Services:
Holdingford Public Schools partners with Solutions Behavior Healthcare Professionals to offer co-located therapy services in our building for students. If you are intersted in a referral please contact your school counselor who can help get you connected.
Telehealth Therapy:
For students who have an outside provider however need a space for virtual therapy appointments, please contact your student’s school counselor to learn more about the process for scheduling telehealth appointments and signing the appropriate telehealth contract and ROI.
How to Find a Therapist:
Many families start by bringing up concerns to their student’s general helathcare provider. Families can also access the MN Mental Health Provider Search Tool to get started in finding an outside provider.

What is Self-Care?
Self-care is about meeting your basic needs so you can be physically and mentally healthy. When we feel stressed, overwhelmed or burnt out, we can start to neglect the basics of looking after ourselves. Our nutrition, movement and sleep health all affect on our brain and mental health, which is why it's so important to self-care, especially if you are starting to struggle with your mental health.
What are Coping Skills?
Adolescence can be exciting and challenging at the same time. It’s when teens undergo many changes in their bodies and try to establish their independence and identity. This life stage makes them prone to experiencing a variety of anxiety and fluctuating feelings. During difficult situations, coping skills for teens will minimize their stress. Coping healthily helps them feel better, function well at home and in school, and transition successfully into adulthood.

School Counselors are licensed mental health profsssionals who are trained to provide short term counseling to students. If a student is in need of long term support for ongoing concerns we can help families get connected to outside therapists who can help provide this support.
Co-Located Therapy Services:
Holdingford Public Schools partners with Solutions Behavior Healthcare Professionals to offer co-located therapy services in our building for students. If you are intersted in a referral please contact your school counselor who can help get you connected.
Telehealth Therapy:
For students who have an outside provider however need a space for virtual therapy appointments, please contact your student’s school counselor to learn more about the process for scheduling telehealth appointments and signing the appropriate telehealth contract and ROI.
How to Find a Therapist:
Many families start by bringing up concerns to their student’s general helathcare provider. Families can also access the MN Mental Health Provider Search Tool to get started in finding an outside provider.
